Pros
- Cleans better than any vacuum I’ve ever owned or tried and is made in the USA.
- I look forward to “Rainbowing” my house because it smells and feels clean after the fact, picking up the dog hair like no other machine I’ve ever owned.

Cons
- As with any vacuum, getting it out and putting it back in its spot.
- Difficult to take up and down stairs, but I just moved into a ranch.

I’ve had asthma for over 50 years and finally found the Rainbow vacuum in 2008. It’s the only vacuum that does not make me sneeze or cough. I vacuum everything that is not too small to be sucked up in the hose (and sometimes I do that if I miss something on the floor). The water in the bowl keeps the dust contained in the water so all I have to do is empty the debris into the toilet (if it’s raining) or outside on most days.

My carpets have never been as clean feeling to my bare feet. For some reason, the carpet
feels softer after I vacuum. We have 2 dogs and the hair has been contained to a reasonable level. It’s amazing how quickly the hair builds up in the crevices of the base boards, but the Rainbow sucks it all up quickly.

The shampoo attachment allows cleaning the linoleum floors with a squeegee, but in between deep cleaning once a month, I spray water mixed with a bit of cleaner and use the hard floor brush to clean the kitchen. It works like a charm and I even shared a new tip with my sales person. There is a squeegee that attaches to the upholstery brush and I use it to clean the glass on the back door and the oven door.

Another way I use the upholstery attachment is to suck the dust out of my pillows by reversing the hose. Since dust is my asthma trigger, this has been a wonderful feature. I also have an attachment that sprays water to remove wall paper.

The same attachment also waters plants, but I don’t have any….I just read where that can be used. Life with the Rainbow is different than using other vacuums. I clean my furniture, pillows, mattress (and carpets with the shampooer).

The service is done by the same person who sold it to me and he is the son of the distributor who has been selling Rainbows for over 30 years. Even though it was sold to us in our home, there is a place in our city to go to for servicing that has been in business for many years.

The Rainbow vacuum is my favourite machine, and we own many. It is a canister type vacuum with water in a plastic pan under the motor. It does take some time to get adjusted to the water, but once you are used to the mechanics, it works like a dream.

The dirt is deposited into the water, and this model adds a hepa final filter, so virtually no dirt is returned to your home. You can add your favourite fragrance to the water, and it is dispersed into the rooms as you clean. It has excellent suction, as sometimes you can accidentally catch a power cord when brushing by.

The Rainbow comes with a power head for carpets, and all the usual on board attachments. It is easy to discard the water in the toilet or a floor drain. Then rinse out the bowl and let it dry and the unit is ready for the next use. I will say the water is the drawback to the Rainbow, but it is a small price to pay for the cleaning quality of this machine.

Keep in mind there are no cones or expensive bags to purchase. It does come with a carpet shampooer, and that does an adequate job. I believe that we paid $1,500 for this particular Rainbow vacuum cleaner with a trade in. Pros would be excellent cleaning and completely dust free operation and cons would be the water and the price.
