Pros
- Lightweight and very powerful.
- Easy to use.

Cons
- No tools.
- Dust bagsare not always easy to change.

Oreck XL21 Vacuum Cleaner This is one of Oreck’s top line models. It is light in weight, only 8pounds, and has one simple on-off switch on the handle. The switch provides two suction settings and also controls the illumination lights mounted in the base unit. The lights are close to the floor providing wide effective illumination of even the darkest corners. Dust and dirtare collected in a hypoallergenic removable paper bag that is contained in a sturdy cloth outer bag. The cleaner comes in two basic color schemes black and gray or brown and beige.

The suction fan is driven by a small but powerful motor that also drives a rotary brush that, over carpet, delivers a strong forward force to help drive the cleaner along the floor. Changing the paper dust bag is really quite straightforward once you have mastered the sequence and the locking mechanism. It is very important to use the correct bag as Oreck have different styles of locking mechanism that will only accept a particular design. The only real drawback of this cleaner is that it has no external tools. Although small in size there is nothing small about the performance of the vacuum cleaner.

The suction is extremely powerful and will pick up large objects and clothing if you are not careful! Also, because it is light in weight it is easy to use on stairs and other awkward locations where lifting might be needed. The suction base unit is small in height allowing it to fit under low furniture quite easily and the handle releases easily by simply pulling it towards you – no catches or locks to deal with.

The XL21 can be purchased from Oreck stores with 21-years of “free” service included in the price – it works out to be about $30 per service. The service only includes labor and parts can be expensive but Oreck seems to use top quality material so don’t expect to have to change parts very often. All in all this is very good investment.

Pros
- This vacuum comes with a 10 year warranty, so rest assured you do not need to purchase a new vacuum for at least 10 years.
- The hypo-allergenic filtration system is excellent in trapping dust and micro-particles which is great for allergy sufferers.

Cons
- he replacement bags can become quite pricey and you must always purchase packages containing several bags.
- Be ready to spend $20 to $50.

The Oreck XL 2 is a super light upright vacuum cleaner featuring a hypo-allergenic filtration system. The vacuum has a 2 speed setting that adjusts for hardwood floor or carpet cleaning. The rotating brush turns on during carpet cleaning and is great for picking up stubborn pet fur or lint on carpeting. There is also a side brush that captures dirt that normally is not picked up in the area between the crevices of the floor and wall.

The vacuum does not contain attachments, however, when you purchase the Oreck XL 2, you also receive a complimentary 5 pound canister vacuum with attachments meant for cleaning upholstery, stairs and other hard to reach areas. The hypo-allergenic filtration system is excellent, especially for anyone suffering from allergies. Unlike most vacuums that spread the dust around, this vacuum actually traps dust and micro- particles from returning back into the air.

Furthermore, the process of changing the bag is extremely simple and clean. The bags are meant to contain the particles even when the bag is taken out, so there is no mess when changing bags. Although the vacuum features strong suction capability, it is also quiet and energy efficient. Easy grip handle, light weight and self-propel handling makes it easy for anyone to use, including seniors or individuals with physical disabilities.

Pros
- It is lightweight
- Extremely efficient

Cons
- Changing the bags isn’t real easy
- The fabric on the outer bag is thin and easy to rip when vacuuming under furniture.

The Oreck brand was started by a native in my home town of New Orleans. I had heard David Oreck speak at a business conference and was impressed with his story, with his products, and with the chance to support a hometown enterprise. When I went to the Oreck store on River Road, however, I had the intention of buying an air purifier to help clean the air in my home of the mold and mildew that was still prevalent after Hurricane Katrina.

Even though my current vacuum cleaner was over 5 years old, I didn’t intend to buy a new one. Standing in the display area, though, was the most beautiful of all vacuum cleaners, an upright, black and tan, sleek design with a handle in the shape of a large letter “C”. Of course I had to ask the salesman about it. I

t was a little off-putting when he told me the price, but then, like all good salespeople, he let me try it and I was sold….for a variety of reasons. The vacuum is lightweight and slim, so it is easy to store. Given that my utility closet space at home is at a minimum, this was a big factor.

Moving the vacuum around the floor took very little effort. It almost seemed to have a mind of its own as to where it needed to go, but not so much that it was uncontrollable. The noise was much softer than previous vacuums that I had owned. Given that my cat always heads for the hills in fright whenever I pull out the vacuum, I thought the noise might be the reason.

(Subsequently buying and taking this model home and using it proved my theory to be correct. The noise is so much less annoying that the cat just lies there now and I have to vacuum around him). The HEPA-Celoc outer bag of the vacuum cleaner is made of a medical filtration material that helps to filter even the smallest dust particles. So the dust isn’t going back out into the air. I liked that feature.

A ten year warranty! The store and the service center are very conveniently located for me, in case I have a problem with the vacuum or when I need to buy new bags. Another big plus.

Pros
- Lightweight
- Durable

Cons
- No attachments
- More difficult to use on frieze style carpeting

I have been quite happy with my Oreck XL2 vacuum. I bought the machine about five years ago and it is still going strong without losing any suction or needing repairs. It is a very straight forward vacuum; there are no hoses, or attachments of any kind (Other than the small canister vacuum that came with it as a bonus).

It’s just a simple upright vacuum that will transition from carpet to hard surfaces without the use of any switches or buttons. I have two black dogs and two kids and nearly white carpet! My Oreck XL2 does a wonderful job of keeping up with the messes left behind by all of my little critters.

I typically use it to vacuum the entire bottom story of my house every day. I even use it in the kitchen and the bathroom because it does a pretty good job of getting dog hair off of hard surfaces and really cuts down on the amount of broom sweeping that I need to do. The Oreck XL2 is advertised for being incredibly light, which it is.

For the most part, I can carry it up and down the stairs in my home with relative ease. However, when I first bought this vacuum, I was surprised at how heavy it does become as the bag begins to reach its capacity. Also, in my previous house I had frieze style carpeting. I found that the added resistance from the longer carpet fibers made the Oreck XL2 a little bit more difficult to use than with a more traditional pile.
