Pros
- versatile
- works well

Cons
- heavy
- expensive to maintain

We had a salesman come to the house several years ago, selling this vacuum, and my husband was completely sold. He ran through a series of “tests” that show how inadequate our vacuum cleaner was and dazzled our housecleaning world. As dazzling as it may be I have mixed views about this piece of machinery. This vacuum cleaner has a variety of attachments that allow you to not only clean your carpet, but your curtains, lampshades, car, and outside your home. Yes, outside. It also doubles as a leaf blower. Granted, I haven’t used it as such, I’ve only used it for its obvious purpose – vacuuming – and it does that wonderfully. It has a little rocker switch on it that will make it gentler, so you can use it on the aforementioned curtains and lampshades, as well as dolls and other fragile valuables. For as great as it works, it has a couple down-falls that I find taxing.

First, you have to buy bags for it and they’re not available at just any store, like Wal-Mart. You have to find an authorized Kirby dealer. Second, the bags are expensive. Third, it’s pretty heavy, I think, but I’m no She-Ra. Fourth, it doesn’t turn overly well. Fifth, and not so important, is that it looks like a vacuum your grandmother or great grandmother might have had in her glory days. Despite those 5 things, it works really well as a vacuum and the attachments are fairly easy to switch over. I’ve also used it as a carpet cleaner and it worked adequately as well.

Pros
- awesome suction
- several attachments

Cons
- Takes too much time to attach attachments
- rather heavy

The Kirby is a rather expensive vacuum, but it really is the best. It has great suction power, it’s the only vacuum that has ever cleaned our carpet this well. There are different height settings for different carpets- that comes in very handy. You can turn the suction down to only half so that you can vacuum rugs and not suck them up into the roller.

You can turn the brush roller off and vacuum hard floors which nice because when you sweep you just push the dirt around. The brush roller is replaceable, you won’t have to go buy another vacuum when it is worn out. It has several attachments to help with cleaning around the house. These attachments work well for detailing the car as well. It also came with a shampoo attachment that is very convenient to have around. It’s a foaming shampooer so you don’t soak your carpet. Therefore it dries rather quickly.

The Kirby also has a neutral and drive on it. When in drive it will actually pull itself along the carpet, this is great for someone who has a very thick carpet like I do, or for the elderly or disabled. My 1 1/2 year old was actually able to vacuum the carpet because it was so easy to push! There are a few things I’m not fond of with the Kirby. The main complaint is that in order to use the attachments you must remove the brush head assembly and attach the hose and other attachments. It would be much easier to simply pull out a hose that was always attached and grab that piece of dirt you can’t reach with the vacuum itself.
