Pros
- It has great cleaning power and tools that allow you to accomplish all vacuuming chores.
Cons
- It is heavy because of the direct drive.
- It is hard to move around close areas.
Kenmore Progressive with Direct Drive Overall I am very pleased with my Kenmore vacuum cleaner. When we originally purchased it, we were looking for a cleaner that could deal with the shedding of an elderly cocker spanial. This model definitely delivered on that. I was also thrilled with the attachments that also came with it. The hand tools included a head with a roller on it much like the large roller on the vacuum but convenient for stairs and upholstery. After having used this vacuum for two years, I do have a couple of negatives. Because it is a direct drive with a motor that helps propel it forward, the unit is very heavy. It is fine for working on a single level, but cumbersome to take up and down full flights of stairs. The other negative I have is that because of the weight it is more difficult to get into tight corners. The cleaning power of the unit is impressive and the two signal lights on the body of the unit are very useful.
The one light is lit when dirt is still detected in your carpet and will begin to flicker as you vacuum and goes out when it detects that all dirt has been removed. The second light lets you know when the vacuum is not functioning properly. For instance, if something has been picked up that is not allowing the brush to spin properly or if the bag is full and needs to be replaced. This light definitely gives you a heads up before a problem becomes an issue. The bag is easy to replace and is large enough that bags only need to be replaced occasionally.
After years of pushing and dragging around a tunnel of wind and all the debris it so efficiently gathered, it was time to go back to a lightweight canister model. A general fan of Kenmore products, I was impressed to see the wide variety of “can-vacs” they carry. The Progressive is a mid-priced vacuum with a 360 degree swivel hose that is very convenient. The 12 amp vacuum has great suction, rotating brush for rugs and a floor setting. There are five height settings for different types of rugs. Of course, it has a HEPA filter, and a performance guage–a red light that lights up when the bag is full and suction is reduced. The tools are carried onboard and it has a very efficient power cord retractor system. It also has a safety feature for vacuuming stairs.
The back of the machine is designed to grip the stairs, and I must say, I have never had it tumble down the stairs. The wand is very easy to detach from the 14″ vacuum head when you want to use the accessories. I like this vacuum a lot. However, it is a real “drag” as most canisters are. Although the wheels work well, they don’t maneuver as well as I need them to maneuver and I’m always bumping into furniture with the canister. The accessories, which include a mini pet hair remover head are a disappointment. They just seem cheap. But they are functional. There are two kinds of bags available, the higher priced one is an allergen filtration bag that works very well at trapping dust and odors as you vacuum. This vacuum takes a Type C bag. Also, the kickback is not bad with this vacuum. Kickback is when you try to vacuum, say, cat litter, and the rotor brush sprays it all over your feet.
Pros
- price
- overall ability
Cons
- color choice
- frequently having to buy bags
Being a vacuum sales man i know what a good vacuum is and my fav is the Kenmore progressive. This vacuum will always out perform even the more expensive brands for example the DYSON. It is half its price but works far better and best of all it doesn’t damage your carpet or your hard ware floor.
This Vacuum is very easy to maintain and very easy to use. It is relatively quiet and adds nice scenery to where ever it is placed for storage. This vacuum doesn’t use a belt but it does use a bag where the bag provides filtering further cleaning the air as it cleans your floor. The vacuum itself uses a HEPA filter which also allows for a cleaner over all environment. I fully recommend this brand of vacuum over every other one out there. Save your money and increase your cleaning capabilities with it.
Pros
- Good design, Mini beater head
Cons
- Not the greatest suction, could be a little lighter
I purchased this vacuum two years ago and have yet to find another that works as well for my home and needs. I have two German Shepherd dogs (lovingly referred to as my German Shedders) and hardwood floors and this vacuum is ideal for me. It comes with three accessory pieces (floor head, crevice tool, brush head) as well as a furniture size beater head which is extremely handy for getting dog hair out of the furniture and for vacuuming car seats.
The overall design of this vacuum is very easy. It has a quick release for the motorized head that can easily be used with your toe… no bending over. A particularly useful feature if, like me, you are constantly switching from carpeting to bare floors and need to change attachments. The hand held segment has a sturdy handle and is comfortable to use with the attachments.
The attachments themselves are stored in an easy to access top compartment making switching heads painless. One of the simplest, yet most convenient, features of this vacuum is the power button being on the hand held portion of the hose. Rather than chasing after the canister to turn the power of, it’s literally right at your fingertips.
Until I had this feature I had no idea how much I would appreciate it. The unit itself is moderately heavy but navigates easily. My only complaint is that it’s not terribly powerful. Since I don’t have a lot of carpeting it’s still very useful to me, but I wouldn’t recommend this unit to someone with wall to wall carpeting. For a rather inexpensive vacuum, I think you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Pros
- intelliclean system
- good suction
Cons
- a little bit heavy
- poor suction along edges
This vacuum does a great job overall. One of the best features is the intelliclean system. The lighted display turns red when dirt is actively being sucked up, orange when it is a lesser amount of dirt and finally green when it is fully clean. The suction is very good on this vacuum and it does well with pet hair on carpets.
It has a large variety of onboard tools with a long hose for other tasks and can be used on carpets or hard flooring. At about $250, it is an excellent vacuum for the price.
Pros
- Inteli-cleaner is great for babies crawling, telling you when your floor is clean. – Extra extensions for hard to reach areas.
Cons
- When emptying the canister be careful the bottom does open up on you. That is the only downfall with the easy to remove canister.
- The vacuum is heavy, and a pain to carry from one place to another if you needed to. Not fun carrying up stairs.
I actually really do love this Vacuum. One of the reason why I bought it was because of its Inteli-clean system. It basically has a red and green light and the red light stays on when the floor is dirty and goes off and green come on once it has picked up everything. I have a 7 month old daughter who just started crawling so it defiantly helps me out.
It also lets you pick what your a Vacuuming. It had easy to push buttons on the neck of it to select from carpet, gentle on floor (which covers tile and hardwood floors), or if you are using the suction tools. I Vacuum the house at least twice a week, sometimes more if needed. It has no bag to replace when it gets full.
Just a plastic canister that is easily removed and put back into place. My husband also uses the Vacuum to use with the cars. The suction tools comes with extra extensions to reach further than most vacuums, which I love, because I am short and I can reach the ceiling fans with it.
The vacuum is rather loud though, which is one thing I do not like, so if you have babies or kids, you would have to pick a certain time to do. Better when they are up. It works great on couches if if you have a dogs that leave hair behind. It usually only take me a couple seconds to get the hair of our couches.
It is not one of those vacuums that you have to keep going over and over to remove all the hair. I just love it!
