I’ve purchased other appliances from Eureka before and have always been satisifed. But when I saw this canister vacuum cleaner, I was hesitant. It was on sale at Walmart for only $45.00 and I just couldn’t imagine any vacuum that inexpensive, working correctly or lasting for even a year.

But I’d just purchased a new home and both my existing machines had broken at once, so I needed something in a hurry. Against my better judgement, I bought the Eureka Maxima. The first time I used it, I was amazed. The suction power was unbelievable!

I remember having to spend four times as much in the past, to get a machine with suction that good. I was able to vacuum up the entire house in record time. It has a retractable cord that allows me to unplug, retract quickly and move to another room.

Since this model is a canister vacuum with a telescopic wand, it was easy to get under beds and other furniture. It only comes with one attachment, which is a little brush that I think is meant to clean off things like window blinds. But I have also used it to vacuum up cat hair from my sofa.

Cleanup like that requires brushing off and then vacuuming up, so that tool came in handy for me. The machine collects all the dirt into little vacuum bags (Eureka T) which seem to last a long time and are also readily available in packets of three, at Walmart. They’re less than one dollar each. All in all, for the money, I’m happy with my purchase. The machine is on it’s second year of life now, and still going strong.

The Pros: Excellently priced Incredible suction power The Cons: It’s worthless on thick rugs. It’s only for bare floors and low-pile rugs The telescopic wand isn’t as long as I expected. If you’re a tall person, you’re going to have to stoop over, a little more than usual.
