Pros
- Great suction
- HEPA filter.
Cons
- Somewhat complicated to use
- Wife has problem with grinding noise during use
The Dyson DC-14 Animal vacuum cleaner is a high tech unit, jam packed with unique features. It has the best suction of any vacuum cleaner I’ve ever used. The telescoping reach wand will extend up to 17 feet, making cleaning stairs a breeze. The mini turbine head picks up bigger pieces better than any vacuum cleaner I’ve used, yet it also gets all the little stuff. We have three cats, and the Dyson DC-14 picks up cat hair easily from hardwood floors, carpet, and furniture.
The low reach floor tool gets under furniture better than other designs. Its ergonomic design makes it easy to carry, although my wife struggles to carry it. The lifetime HEPA filter is a very desirable feature. It’s very easy to empty. No more bags. No leaks what so ever.
It picks everything up, and keeps it stashed away until you empty it. My wife bought this. Unfortunately, she has many problems using it. She can’t seem to get the feel for how to maneuver it, or how to use the wand and the attachments. She also gets a terrible grinding noise from it after she’s used it for just a few minutes. This happens to her every time she’s used it, and I can’t figure out why.
She now refuses to use it. I don’t have any of these problems when using the Tyson DC-14. I think that it’s a wonderful vacuum cleaner. It is, however, very expensive. It does seem to be a very deluxe, premium quality vacuum cleaner, but I don’t know if it’s really worth the premium price.
Pros
- Versatility
- Easy to maintain
Cons
- Pricey
- Clogs easily
The Dyson vacuum is a powerful home cleaning tool that is as versatile as it is gadgety chic. I have a baby girl and it is important to me that the house be clean and dust free.
The HEPPA filter gives me peace of mind and I have noticed a sharp reduction in my allergies since I began using this vacuum. I also have a pet rabbit, and the powerful suction on this machine does a great job in getting all the hair that ultimately winds up otherwise floating around my house. The only down side is there are sharp turns where the hose attachment attaches to the base of the unit and the Dyson tends to clog at that section. This is not that big of a problem as the vacuum easily disassembles to allow access to the inner workings without the need for a screw driver. However, it would still be more convenient if the vacuum did not clog as frequently as it does. One confusing aspect of the vacuum is that, unlike most other vacuum cleansers, the Dyson does not have a pedal that triggers the tilt feature of the handle. To use the Dyson you need to actually step on the front of the machine and push the handle back. This tends to be awkward.
All in all, the Dyson is reliable, sturdy, and does a nice job. Though it tends to run pricey at about $400.00, I have seen it on sale at half that price during the
Pros
–The vacuum generates air movement in its general vicinity and tends to push long dog hair and dust up into the air before I can vacuum it up. With the telescope reach wand I can reach ahead of the vacuum to suck up long dog hair that collects in every corner and under furniture and not find it later on my counters and couch.
– This vacuum has a life time HEPA filter that does a terrific job of blocking fine dust and allergens from being pushed back into my home. It helps keep the air in my home cleaner and easier to breathe.
Cons
– The beater brush tends to get clogged up with long dog hair and other stringy materials in the bristles of the brush. These materials must be removed by hand by pulling on a regular basis or they eventually work their way around the belts and slow its motion, therefore effectiveness.
– The removable dirt canister gets filled with fine dust and must be wiped out occasionally. While I like not having replacement paper bags that collect the dirt, wiping the inside of the canister is a dirty, dusty job. This task must be done outside or in the garage.
Dyson DC14 – full kit vacuum The Dyson DC14 has proven to be a good, reliable machine for my home. I have two long haired dogs and live in a high desert climate with tons of fine dust in the air for most of the year. The vacuum is easy to maneuver around furniture and transitions nicely from carpet to tile floor without changing settings. The DC14 has done a very good job of keeping my Berber carpeting clean and neat on a continual basis. I also have a 6’ X 10’ wool carpet in my dining area that endures a lot of traffic, both human and canine. The DC14 has done a terrific job of removing dog hair, dog cookie crumbs and general dirt from this surface.
This model comes with a telescope reach wand, and three attachment heads: one for use on furniture, one for use on drapes/loose materials, and one for use in small narrow spaces. The telescope wand extends approximately 6 feet from the vacuum, allowing the user to reach high, low and hard to get to spaces. This vacuum is bag less and super easy to use. Just push a button to release the dirt canister, push a button to release the opening and empty it, then reclose it with the push of a finger and reseat it back on the machine.
The DC14 has very good suction and does a great job of picking up all dirt, pet hair and other vacuum sized objects from the surfaces in my home: Berber carpet, large wool area rug, small T area rugs and runners, as well as tile floors.
Pros
- The hepa filter has helped my allergies.
- The extra long extension hose makes it really easy to get to hard to reach places like stairs.
Cons
- The vacuum is rather heavy.
- Customer service is difficult to reach.
Overall, the Dyson DC 14 is a great vacuum. It has great suction. The first time I used it, I was frightened by how dirty my last vacuum cleaner left my house; I picked up a full can of dirt from just 3 area rugs. The vacuum is bagless and has a hepa filter, which has been great for my allergies.
Although the vacuum cleaner is pricey, you save money by not having to buy bags. Also, because you can see how full it is, you can empty as required. It seems that people who have vacuum cleaners that colect in bags probably do not change bags often enough. The vacuum is very easy to use, but it is quite heavy. The vacuum has an extra long extension hose making it easy to vacuum all of your stairs without having to move the actual unit.
The vacuum, however, does not come with an attachment for floors. The attachment can be purchased separately through Dyson, however, it does fit all standard sized attachments. Recently, we questioned whether th vacuum cleaner is working properly. It seems that it is taking longer to vacuum. It is nearly impossible to get hold of someone from customer service. The warranty has recently been extended to 5 years. Although I have not had it serviced, it seems like it could be a different transaction.
Pros
- the HEPA filter
- the ability to move from carpet to hard floors without any adjustments.
Cons
- the cumbersome attachments
- loss of suction.
I have to say that James Dyson commercials (CEO of Dyson Vacuums) were compelling and had gotten my attention over the years. Who could ignore the “never loses suction” guarantee by the CEO and creator himself, James Dyson. The commercials lead me to seek out a Dyson vacuum when my last vacuum “bit the dust”. I purchased the DC14 model at Sears.
It is a bagless vacuum with 12 amps that weighs under 20 pounds. I tried it out in the store and felt it was easy to roll. It also had a HEPA filter (I am an allergy sufferer) and it would never require bags nor a filter replacement. Bags and filters can be expensive over time so I saw that being a cost savings. It also would work on both carpets and hard floors without any adjustments; I have both in my home so this was also appealing.
In addition, it had all of the attachments that I used with my prior vacuum. I had never spent that much on a vacuum but I thought that I would invest in one that was advertised to be superior to most others on the market. I have had it over 6 months and I think it is good, but not great. It definitely picks up a LOT more than my prior vacuum (although I do worry that in a few years my carpets might be bald).
The canister is easy to dump and it does go easily from carpet to hard floors without any issues. As for the suction, I have to say that I was disappointed. It takes time to gain suction and if you turn it off, it takes time to gain it back again (so much for never loses suction). Once it is going, it does a good job. I am also not crazy about how the attachments work. I like to switch back and forth between doing the main floor and the corners/edges of walls and it is cumbersome to do so with this vacuum. Also, it doesn’t move that easily. I guess that’s why the Dyson Ball was invented! Overall, it is a good vacuum.

Pros
- The Dyson picks up dirt and hair like you wouldn’t believe.
- It’s also relatively quiet for such a powerful vacuum.
Cons
- The tools and attachments take some assembly time, and there’s a learning curve to affixing them to the vacuum.
- The price of the Dyson is also prohibitive unless you can find one on sale or, even better, clearance.
I purchased my Dyson DC-14 Animal Vacuum about a year a half ago after much debate. The Dyson models tend to be on the pricey side, and the DC-14 model was selling at that time for about $450, twice as much as some of the other vacuums which advertised themselves as good on picking up pet hair among other things. Still, the reviews I read of the Dyson tended to be more positive than not. I waited until the vacuum went on sale and decided to give it a try.
The first time I ran it over the carpet, I was astonished by how much dirt and hair it picked up. After vacuuming a large swath of carpet, I called my husband in. I ran the Dyson over the same spot I’d just vacuumed—and again picked up an incredibly amount of dirt and hair (who knew my carpet was that filthy?!?!). My husband and I both agreed that the Dyson is probably one of the most satisfying vacuums we’ve ever used in terms of seeing just how much stuff it picks up so quickly.
On a normal day of vacuuming, I’ll empty the canister at least three times before I’m finished. With my older Hoover, I changed the bag every 6 weeks or so; I cringe just thinking about how much stuff the Hoover was missing. We have two dogs and two cats—shedding monsters, all four. The Dyson does a fantastic job of keeping up with all that fur as well as the dirt everyone (except me because I take my shoes off at the door) tracks into the house.
I enjoy using my dyson vacuum. It has always been easy to use and efficient. My room is very difficult to vacuum with an ordinary vacuum but with the dyson it is very easy.
The manoeuvrability is great. Vacuuming once used to be dreaded by everyone in my house because of how hard it was to vaccum with our old bulky vaccum. Once we bought our new dyson vacuuming became a breeze. Don’t get me wrong no vacuum is perfect they all have flaws but I have found that the dyson model DC14 has had very few.
For my two pros I would have to say that I am glad that my vacuum is easy to manoeuvre and also how easy the dyson is to clean. Two cons that I would say are that it is quite noisy and also kind of annoying with the short cord and always having to move to different outlets.
Pros
- Superior suction
- Easy maintenance (without bags).
Cons
- Pricey compared to other brands
- Has an unwieldy fixed attachment at the end of the hose.
I am not new to the vacuuming game. Of the seven vacuum cleaners that I have owned the Dyson DC-14 is the best – no contest. Living in a 5000 sq. ft. home I use my vacuum cleaner a lot. I chose the animal model not for its spiffy purple color but for its promise to extract cat hair from carpets and furniture.
I was quite frankly disgusted at the amount of dirt that the Dyson pulled from our supposedly clean carpet on my first run through the house. My old vacuum cleaner took care of the surface debris but obviously did not pull out the embedded dirt from our wall to wall carpet the way the Dyson did. The bottom line on the Dyson’s ability to clean floors is that it does a better job than the other brands that I have owned.
Having this vacuum for more than four years I would have to say that it is also a durable machine. I would never go back to a model that requires bags. To empty the canister you just have to push a release button and bring it to a garbage can. I recommend doing this outside if possible to avoid the nasty dust cloud you create as you shake the canister clean.
The attachments are pretty standard and easy to connect. The DC-14 has a generous hose and cord. I do find the fixed attachment on the end of the hose to be rather unwieldy in tight spaces (like my car). This model is fairly easy to disassemble for cleaning. You need to remove the internal filters periodically and rinse them out. The carpet bar will become wrapped with hair and carpet fibers and needs to be cleaned as well.
Pros
- Powerful
- Easy-to-Use and Bagless
Cons
- Bulkier than other Dyson models
- Cumbersome to use tube attachment
The Dyson DC14 is quite possibly the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used in my life. Even though it is $399 retail, it is entirely worth the money and comes with a 5-year warranty. Its sleek design and ease of use make vacuuming actually feel fun. I never thought I would look forward to vacuuming! It does a wonderful job and does not lose suction.
It is bagless and has a trigger that you can hold the dirt container over the trash can without having to turn it upside down and risk getting dust and dirt everywhere. It snaps right off and back on with minimum hassle! The tube attachment is actually built into the neck of the vacuum which reduces the number of annoying attachments to mess with.
One downside is that in order to completely get the tube attachment separated from the body of the vacuum, you have to completely unwind the power cord which can be a bit trying in small spaces. This can be irritating in small areas. While the vacuum is considerably larger than most of its other Dyson counterparts, it makes up for that in sheer power.
You can always rest assured that your carpet is getting practically deep cleaned at half the time it takes with a standard vacuum. Despite a few rather minor setbacks, this vacuum is fun and extremely efficient. If you have a spare $399 lying around and don’t mind spending it on a vacuum, you absolutely will not regret it!
Pros
- Great suction
- No Bags
Cons
- Expensive
- Brush attachments could be better
Over the years after moving from house to house I have left behind numerous vacuums because they just did not live up to all the promises. However with this vacuum I may be done hunting. I am completely happy with this vacuum. I got this vacuum over four years ago and it is still working exactly like the day I got it.
It has so much suction that even after vacuuming with my old vacuum it will pull up a major amount of debris. This vacuum does take a couple times to get used to how its set up, but once you figure it all out you will wonder why everyone else does not configure their vacuums to work the same way. The most noticeable difference is that the hose is
not an extra tube that wraps around the back of the vacuum getting in the way.
The handle actually releases from the body and the hose extends like an accordion. The top of the canister has snap grooves that contain the available attachments. The attachments work, but they are not the greatest.
My bid complaint is that the flat attachment is angled very low and is not very wide. My absolute favorite thing is that there are no bags. The canister has a nice grip with a quick release for removal from the vacuum.
The canister then can be easily empties through a trap door by another push button. All and all I highly recommend this vacuum. The price of this vacuum may be high but Dyson has been selling them refurbished for a discount, which may be a better option for the budget conscious.
