Pros
- the suction
- the design
- it’s bagless
Cons
- the price;
- the wand is hard to reconnect if you take it out.
I love my Dyson. It is the best vacuum cleaner that I have ever owned. Although it was expensive, I save money not buying bags. The tank is easy to empty. The attachments easily connect to the hose that is stored in the handle of the vacuum. All the parts store on the vacuum.
I disconnected the wand and couldn’t get it to reconnect. I called customer service and they did a great job of helping me reconnect the wand over the phone. I have no complaints–it works great. I guess you could say this vacuum really sucks!
Pros
- lightweight
- easy to use
Cons
- spreads dust when emptying if not careful
- needs a longer cord
Dyson DC17 This is the asthma and allergy model. I have cats and dogs and this works wonders on getting up all of the pet hair. This vacuum is very quiet and has great suction. I did an area test between my old vacuum and the Dyson.
I re-vacuumed the same area with the Dyson last and was amazed by how much dirt and pet hair was still in the carpet. It has greatly cut down on the amount of pet dander that is in the house. I love the fact that you can turn off the rotating brush with just a push of a button.
The vacuum can be used on all surfaces. Another great feature is the telescoping wand. It extends very far and makes cleaning the corners and crevices very easy. The vacuum comes with alot of different attachments. I still haven’t figured out what to use them on.
One of my favorite attachments it comes with is the dusting wand. It is so easy to dust all of the furniture and my wood blinds without spreading the dust around with a rag. The only downside to this vacuum is emptying it. You need to be careful to empty far down into the trash can so all of the dust does not get spread around again. Also, I find that you get fuzz stuck to the inside and the only way to get that off is to use your hands.
The Dyson also comes with a lifetime hepa filter which is nice to know that you do not need to replace it. My daughter had gotten it clogged and I found that it was very easy to take apart unclog and put back together. It is very lightweight and easy to push around the room. Overall, I would reccommend this vacuum to everyone.
Pros
- overall quality
- performance.
- very hard vacuum to beat
Cons.
- price
- weight
I have a Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner. I’ve owned many different vacuum cleaners in the past Hoover, Panasonic and Eureka. This one is by far the best…It works great. Very easy to handle Easy to empty out, no bags..It comes with numerous accessories.. . The only real con is the price but when it comes to a vacuum cleaner I have found that you get what you pay for so I would rate it a
The new one they have with the ball looks pretty neat but I’m going to have to wait till my Animal dies before I buy one.
I’m disabled so it gets a little cumbersome after a while but I would not want to trade if for anything. I hope this review helps you make up your mind which vacuum cleaner to buy but if you buy the Dyson Animal I assure you ..you will love it..Just make sure you get the set with all the attachments…most of them clip onto the vacuum so they are always nearby.
I have people in my house with long hair and it only take about fifteen minutes to pull out the agitator, clean it all out ….When I ordered mine it also included a bunch of carpet cleaning powders…I have owned my Dyson for about 9 years now and have never had a problem with it..I would highly recommend it..

Dyson Animal DC17 The Dyson Animal vacuum is marketed as the perfect vacuum for households with pets. The suction is excellent, thanks to the Dyson cyclone technology, and picks up pet hair and dirt easily.
It comes with several attachment pieces so it can be used in mulitiple places: stairs, car, around small spaces. Using the attachements does not seem to diminish the suction at all. Dyson products are also certified as Asthma and Allergy friends, which is a plus in homes with small children.
The vacuum uses a lifetime HEPA filter, and has a dirt collection bin which is sizable, reducing the number of times you need to empty it. The bin is also clear so you can see when it needs to be emptied. The vacuum also has a telescoping reach wand, which is very handy for reaching cobwebs or other dirt that is up in ceiling corners, or for reaching behind or under furniture.
The vacuum also has two settings, carpet and floor. The floor setting works well for vacumming tile or wood floors. The vacuum weighs about 20 pounds, so it’s not the lightest vacuum on the market, but is manageable. For the price, I really would have liked to see one at least a bit lighter.
The one drawback I’ve found is that like other vacuums I’ve had, my pet’s hair gets would around the roller underneath, and I frequently have to cut it off with scissors. It seems to be a common problem between different models of vacuum cleaners, but I had hoped with a vacuum at this price point it would not happen. This vaccum is pricey, at about $549.
You can price check through different stores, but will still pay about $500. Although it is a well performing vacuum, I’m not sure if it warrants the high cost. I will say though that I have never had a performance issue with the Dyson Animal. It has been a very dependable vacuum cleaner, in a home with pets and children.
Pros
- Ease of use.
- Suction power.
Cons
- Expensive
- A bit too powerful for thin materials.
The Dyson DC17 Animal is an excellent, albeit expensive, vacuum cleaner. I live with a Lab mix who sheds heavily 50 weeks of the year, so the house is constantly covered in dog hair. The DC17 has great suction and a variety of attachments that helps remove dog hair and dust from all sorts of corners and surfaces.
It’s perfect in all but two cases: first, we had an old corduroy-type couch, and even the DC17’s powerful suction wasn’t enough to dislodge the dog hairs that desperately wanted to stay embedded in the fabric. Second, the vacuum simply overpowers thin surfaces like bath mats and duvets—instead of de-hairing the surface, it tries to suck up the fabric! On the plus side, the DC17 is powerful enough for heavy-duty cleaning in the basement, garage, workshop and car, so we no longer need a separate ShopVac.
The DC17 has a super-long cord and a long hose, so we can plug it in, run it all the way around our living room and dining room, and then clean the entire staircase without having to unplug— very convenient. The long hose also helps with spider webs in odd corners of the ceiling. We have been using the DC17 for around 3 years now, without any reduction in suction, repair or maintenance needed. It’s also attractive—not something
I generally consider in a vacuum, but with our dog, it helps to leave the vacuum out all the time. Fortunately, the DC17 is attractive enough that I don’t mind it being visible. Finally, perhaps the best part of the DC17 is the ease of emptying the canister. Just one button push and it opens all the dirt and dust empties into the trash, and we’re ready for more dog hair pickup. The clear canister has markings to show when it’s time for emptying. The vacuum is expensive, but worth the price for its reliability, longevity, ease of use and power.
After many unsuccessful attempts at purchasing lower cost model vacuums, that within a year I would have to throw out or invest tons of money into replacement parts, I ended up purchasing the Dyson D17 The Animal. The initial draw was the name “The Animal” and the color choices. I mean if you have to do dirty work, you might as well be trendy right? I also presumed it had to be good and because I was trying to combat animal hair! With a name like that how could one go wrong? So with 1/2 of my paycheck I entered the store and purchased this incredible piece of machinery (so I thought).
All smiles leaving the store I felt as if I was going to have this issue beat. Arriving home I anxiously removed all the pieces from the box. Ummm ok now what do I do? For $450.00 I would of expected this thing to put itself together. A few hours later I was able to make sense of it by looking at the picture on the box. I am not sure if it is standard or not, but there were no clear directions that came with this gem of a vacuum.
Proud of myself for figuring it out, I plugged in my purple beauty and off I went. I was disappointed to say the least. The Dyson D17 is heavy (20+lbs) and clumsy, requiring much coordination to move to and from areas and changing the attachments to vacuum the areas needed. You will require much patience as you have to continually go slowly over the area or you will end up having “fluffed fuzz” on your carpets.
The extension is not quite long enough for higher ceilings (9ft and above)but I guess that doesn’t really matter because the suction isn’t what it is cracked up to be. The two benefits is the attachment for the furniture and easy to empty canister along with durability. I’ve knocked it over so many times and it still runs.

Pros
- Most efficient vacuum cleaner I have ever owned.
- Does not require bags.
Cons
- Large/Bulky vacuum.
It is difficult to manage the dander and hair from my two cats and dog in my studio apartment. For a while, I feared I was developing allergies and needed a solution that did not involve getting rid of my pets. Fortunately, I found one in the Dyson Animal. I purchased the vacuum cleaner after reading several positive reviews, as well as an endorsement by the American Asthma Association.
This bagless vacuum comes with several attachments that allow for the easy removal of pet hair, dust, dirt, and dander. Further, the Animal is compatible with Zorb (sold separately). Zorb is a citrus scented substance that can be sprinkled on carpets, brushed into fibers by the bristles underneath the vacuum, and later vacuumed up to provide a deep clean. Although the Dyson was pricey, I have saved even more money by cleaning my rugs at home as opposed to sending them out to be steam cleaned. The Zorb powder has removed long-term stains and odors that I had tried to remove with a myriad of store bought carpet cleaning products. It truly is an incredible machine. I now enjoy vacuuming because of my Dyson.
The attachments make it easy for me to vacuum dust out from behind furniture or to remove cat hair from chairs, sofas, and other fabrics. There is a long extension pole connected to the Dyson that allows you to clean above cabinets and underneath beds. Overall, the Dyson Animal has helped to control the dust and dander in my apartment.
The machine is a bit bulky, but lightweight and easy to maneuver. The bristles beneath the machine pull up excess hairs, and although it is difficult to clean, I have only had to do so two or three times over a six month period. I would endorse this product and strongly recommend it to anyone who suffers from allergies or asthma. It has made my life a thousand times cleaner and breathing at home has been much easier since I have purchased this vacuum.
Pros
- Never losses suction
- picks up everything.
Cons
- The weight
- Does not turn well.
I love my dyson. I got it for Christmas almost a year ago now. I like the fact that there are no bags to buy and no filters to clean. I have allergies and I feel this vacuum helps me keep my carpets dirt and allergen free.
It is important to me that my vacuum be versatile and easy to use. I can take the handle off, and add an attachment that will let me vacuum my drapes. It allows me to reach what used to be hard to reach places and now my cleaning jobs are easier then ever.
I think the only thing I would change about a vacuum like this is the weight. They need to really lighten it up. I am glad I live in a ranch because I would not want to lug the vacuum up and down the stairs. Aside from the weight I really enjoy the cleaning power of this vacuum.
I would recommend it to anyone. In fact I plan on purchasing one for my mother in law as a gift. Another great thing I ended up loving about this vacuum is its ability to go from tall carpet, to short carpet, and all the way down to bare floors. It is difficult to find vacuum cleaners that will pick up dirt and things from a bare floor.
I can spill almost anything on the floor and my dyson will pick it up with little to no problem. It will even remove fur from the tile floors in my kitchen. My old vacuum would push the fur around or it would get caught up in the rollers on the underside. This vacuum sucks the hair straight in to the container where it stays until you empty it.
