Pros
- excellent suction
- great price
Cons
- Slightly top-heavy.
- Composed of mostly plastic casing and component hardware.
My vacuum cleaner is Dirt Devil Model Featherlite purchased approximately 3 years ago. The overall rating that I would give for this item is a nine out of ten. For the price, suction is excellent, weight, being approximately fifteen pounds is very good. It comes with two nozzle accessories. The first is a slim nozzle for reaching tight, hard to reach areas. The second is a brush nozzle.
The cord length is approximately 20 feet and is long enough to provide a convenient reach for any vacuuming application. The price was about $80 which I consider a bargain for a machine of this quality. Durability is excellent. The motor and vacuum pump appear to be of excellent quality as I have had no problems. I have had no performance problems in the 3 years in which I have owned it.
I purchased this vacuum three years ago. It just recently broke after I tried to take it apart to wash it. It picked up a foul smell. It was inexpensive and it did a good job of picking up dirt on our carpets. It did a better job than previous vacuums I have owned. It was sometimes difficult to find vacuum bags.
I would recommend this vacuum if you are looking for something cheap that works on carpet but not if you are looking for something that will clean multi-surfaces and will last for a long time. The attachments were also poorly crafted and I had a hard time using it on furniture and in corners. The front light is a nice feature. Also it is not too heavy. Its name however, might imply that it islighter than it really this. That said, cheaper lighter vacuums I have owned have preformed much worse than this vacuum. I should add that I used it to pick up a lot of animal hair. I have a dog and a cat and they both shed.
The vacuum was not really suited for pet hair and was not very easy to clean. However, it did last three years so I would say considering the amount of hair that was pretty good. For the price, I would probably purchase this vacuum again. I should also add that I really only used it in two rooms and a hallway but I think it would have held up to a whole house alright.
Our brand of vacuum cleaner is a Dirt Devil Featherlite Upright, Model 085580. This is an affordable, lightweight vacuum with a ready to use, stretchable hose for reaching higher surfaces and for use with the various attachments, which are included. These are mounted on the machine for easy access.
It has a twelve amp motor with a thermal protective mechanism which will automatically switch off the motor to avoid overheating. The vacuum has a removable paper vacuum bag, easily accessible from the front of the machine. It has a filter to help get rid of allergens and dust, which is located under the paper vacuum bag. Replacement bags can be purchased online, by phone, or in a retail store.
To start this vacuum, you depress a pedal near the bottom, just above the pedal which releases the handle. The handle can be moved from straight up to a normal vacuuming position and with a further click of the lever, to a nearly horizontal position for cleaning under furniture. There is also a headlight. This model comes with three attachments which can be used with the stretch hose.
There is an extension wand and a crevice tool as well as a small dust brush. These are affixed right on the frame of the vacuum, so you don’t have to search for the attachments when it’s time for a more thorough cleaning job. I like the light weight of the machine. It makes it easier to carry and easier to maneuver. I also like how you can just detach the stretch hose and pop on an attachment in a jiffy. On the other hand, this isn’t the most effective vacuum in overall suction power, and I also don’t like the starting switch being a pedal down on the bottom of the vacuum instead of on the handle like most vacuums I’ve used.
After my Eureka vacuum broke, I was in need of a new one because of my dog. I purchased the Dirt Devil Featherlight Bagless Upright vacuum because it was on sale. I am so glad I did. It cleans up after my dogs insane shedding effortlessly and is extremely easy to remove and clean the filter.
It isn’t very loud, which as all dog owners know can increase anxiety in dogs while vacuuming. The name also doesn’t lie, it is very light weight. I can carry up the stairs with no problem. The brush is great on upholstery for cleaning up hair and crumbs.
This is a really great vacuum for a fraction of the cost. My Eureka broke after less than a year and I hope my Dirt Devil lasts longer, even though I paid half the price. This is a great vacuum for pet owners because it picks up fur quickly and has a filter that is easy to clean out.
The only problems I have with it, which aren’t many for the $45 price tag, is that it only comes with one attachment and changing from vacuum to extending hose is a bit of a hassle. Other than that, I would recommend this to anyone.
I own a Dirt Devil Power Bag less Vacuum. The suction is pretty good and it can pick up alot of things a normal vacuum can’t, which is good for me because I have a young child. I have been able to pick up change, whole cereal and not have to worry about grinding it into the carpet.
Its light about 6 pounds so I can carry it where ever its needed easily. There arent any accessories which does have its down sides but is good for me because I dont have to keep track of them or worry about where they will fit.It runs for about $45.00 but I found it on clearance for $20.00.
Pros
- Powerful
- Excellent value
Cons
- Loud
- Limited accessories
This is a very nice all purpose vacuum cleaner. We have two cats, one of them long haired, and wanted a powerful, lightweight vacuum that would power through the hair. This vacuum certainly does that and more. We have a big area rug and it does an excellent job of picking up the dirt and hair, but it has damaged some of the fringe, just because it is so darn powerful.
I like that it is bagless and the container is easy to remove, but I have to take the container out of the unit while outside, as a small but consistent amount of dust falls out each time. It’s pretty darn loud as well, so we can’t really vacuum after about 8pm, lest we aggravate our downstairs neighbors too much. The vacuum is nice and lightweight, easy for my wife to use, which is quite nice.
The accessories are very limited though. The accessory pieces are also not the best, but that is probably understandable given the cost. To use the accessory wand, you have to disconnect the suction from the brushes and attach it to want.
This is certainly understandable, especially given the price point of the vacuum, but it is pretty annoying, especially if you want to go from brushes to accessories to brushes. Ultimately, this is a good vacuum, especially given the cost.
I “downgraded” from a vacuum that cost about three times as much which did an inferior job and got clogged much more frequently. I am certainly glad I made this purchase and would likely buy another one in a few years when this one loses its effectiveness.
